| ¡@ | Sustainability Voyage is an interactive virtual environment developed for the Hong Kong Science Museum. The system is an exhibit in the museum aiming at conveying a basic understanding of the various human factors contributing to pollution in an underwater environment. The system simulates a group of users navigating in a polluted underwater environment. Users are expected to remove factors polluting the sea (e.g. dumping rubbish, reclamation etc) and thereby maintaining a good environment for marine life. Sustainability Voyage is a multi-user system with a maximum of 600 fishes in the virtual environment. Basic fish animations are generated automatically using the curve-pair based axial deformation. By using a set of virtual sensors, collisions among the fishes and the environment are detected. An estimation of the possible collision directions is used for modeling the behavior of the fish. The turbidity and the number of fishes in the environment are determined by the human factors which can be controlled by the users. Various real-time rendering techniques are adopted to achieve realistic graphics effects |
